Teaching State Capitals

This site is a lesson plan that is appropriate for grades K through 12 and teaches the state capitals. The lesson has a multi day or week approach to allow for gradual release. Students are first presented with a map with the states and their capitals on it. Depending on the grade and independence of the students, this stage can last days or weeks. The lesson allows for students to work with each other by quizzing each other and helping to fill in blank maps along the way. By the end of the provided plan, students are given a blank map and should be able to fill it in themselves. The site supplies many resources for students to practice online in fun, game-like settings.
