Early Colonies and the 13 Colonies

This website is by a 4th grade teacher named Mrs. Perryman. Her website has all the subjects that 4th graders will be taught in, but I focused in on her history page on the thirteen colonies. She has sources on the different early colonies such as the Roanoke and Jamestown Colony. Also there are sources on the colonies such as the colonies in New England, Middle, and Southern. Each section includes a map so students can see what colonies she is referring to, reasons why they were founded, geography and resources, industries and occupations, government, religion, and people. This is great because students will be able to learn all about the colonies, not just what their names are. At the bottom of the page, there are videos related to the colonies so that when you are done learning about the information you can go more in depth. It is very organized and can be a great resource for teachers when it comes to teaching their students about this topic.

This could be used to teach the students about the 13 colonies before the Revolutionary War. It is important that they know about the colonies before they learn about the war. This site goes into great depth with information which allows students to be more knowledgeable when it comes to the colonies. This site would be great for 3rd or 4th grade.
