Science and Engineering Practices

This resource outlines in a rubric how students should engage in arguments based on evidence. Teaching students how to work through ideas in science will help them to learn how to engage in evidence-based practices in all aspects of life. This rubric encourages students to compare and refine arguments, distinguish among facts, provide and receive critiques from peers, support an argument with evidence or model, use data to evaluate claims, and make a claim about the solution. All these components teach students that evidence is the key to making claims in science. Using supporting evidence is important for students to understand so they can excel in all parts of academics.
