Purpose of a food chain

Knowing how a food chain works is very important. It’s important because it shows how energy is transferred from one living organism to another. By knowing the food chain it gives one an understanding of how the organisms make up food. When they do this it balances the ecosystem. All organisms and living things depend on other organisms for nutrients. The food chain begins with photosynthesis. After photosynthesis it turns into animals eating animals which is producing energy for one another. Each organism is either a producer, consumer or decomposer. All plants such as, grass, algae and crops are considered producers. They make their own food and need sunlight to survive. Consumers eat other organisms and there are 3 types of these which are herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. There are also decomposers who decay materials in the soil, such as bacteria and fungi.
