This article explains a fun and interactive way to teach students about cell division. It uses The Next Generation Science Standards as a framework for student’s learning. This activity focuses less on having students memorize the words of each phase, but focuses more on problem solving . The lesson revolves around using modeling to demonstrate the main concept. Students brainstorm ideas of how to model cell division and then create their model in groups using things such as pipe cleaners, twine, clothes pins and other things. This activity is a great way to really show students how cell division occurs and teach students about the main ideas instead of specific definitions.
