This short video clip from The History channel’s online site gives students a concise overview of the 13 original colonies. The video discusses each colony briefly, including when and how it was founded, who discovered it, what its original name was, and the religious differences. Although, this video discusses the information rather quickly, if I were to use it in my classroom I would pause the video at various points in order to further elaborate. For example, the video mentions Jamestown being founded by wealthy London businessman, thus forming the first permanent American colony. At this point in the video, I would pause the video and expand on Jamestown in order to give student more vital knowledge about one of the most important colonies. The video allows students to be introduced to the 13 colonies without overwhelming them with too much information.
