The attached PDF file allows students specifically in grades three through five to review their knowledge of four different European explorers. This “make and take” study guide allows students to create their own study guide by using maps, pictures of explorers, and songs to aid them in understanding explorers and their missions. The study guide includes explorers such as, Christopher Columbus, Juan Ponce de Leon, Christopher Newport, and Jacques Cartier. This study tool asks students where the explorers landed, what country sponsored them, why did they explore, and what did they accomplish. Another interesting aspect to this study guide are the songs students could sing to help remember facts about the explorers. A grid map is also included to informally evaluate students knowledge on identifying different states or countries. This study guide could be used at the end of a unit on explorers and exploration; it is especially useful for visual and english language learners because it includes many pictures and maps to aid their comprehension.
