Dreaming of America: An Ellis Island Story by Eve Bunting

Dreaming of America is a favorite third-grade children book on immigration, which a narrative read aloud with a YouTube link. The story is about a girl named Annie who came from Ireland and her struggle arriving in America. Annie and her brother were sadly separated from her parents when they came to America. Dreaming of America shows in great detail the voyage with her siblings. Eve Bunting shows excellent examples of dialogue and character development that would be used then for third class immigrants whom might come from Ireland.    Dreaming of America is a great story for teaching culture, heritage, diversity, family, and immigration during the 19th century.
