While searching online, I found a site called Microscopy which is a helpful resource for both students and educators. By clicking this link, you will have access to view awesome pictures and videos that are examples of different materials under a microscope. After a fifth grade class becomes introduced to microscopes and how they work, this site could be an easy way to provide examples of both living and nonliving specimens under intense magnification. What was interesting to me was that there was a penny as one example of the objects being viewed up close, and this was what my fifth graders were observing and talking about in class last week. This site would not only provide ideas/inspiration for items to test out under the “things to look at” tab, but real pictures and videos of what students could be seeing in their own exploration. This would be a great way to keep students fascinated and excited to work with microscopes and the many different materials they will hold under them!
