Historic Sites and Your Students

This article gave me a new appreciation regarding the importance of historical sites and how they can help to develop the content that is being taught in the classroom. Not only is this in regards to taking physical field trips to historic sites, but looking up pictures of different locations and comparing/ contrasting their experiences to the one’s that they learn about. My personal experiences have proven this to be true; the majority of the content that I feel the most passionate about stems back to the field trips that I have taken in the past. I think that teachers should look past the burdens associated with going to historical sites, and think about all of the positive experiences the students will get out of them. This article opened my eyes to some new ways that teachers can use historical locations to teach students in order to help them appreciate the history that is around them that they may not even think twice about.
