The book titled, “The 50 States: Explore the U.S.A. with 50 fact-filled maps,” which is written and researched by Gabrielle Balkan, is a wonderful resource that would be a great addition to any elementary school classroom! This book is a large sized book that has so much crucial information about all of the 50 states. The pages are colorful and attention grabbing which makes it perfect for catching the interest of students while they are reading it or using it as a research tool. There is a portion of the book dedicated to each of the states that contains a huge amount of information about that particular state. For example, there are key fact that should be known about each state such as the origin of the name, state nickname, capital, date it became a state, important people from that state, a timeline of events about the state, and other qualities of the state. This would be an invaluable tool to use when teaching students about the States and Capitals, which is a unit in 5th grade at WWP school district. This is a resource I recommend all teachers take a look at.
