The U.K. has put it’s entire collection of World War 1 diaries, letters, maps, and photographs online for free. This extensive collection is an amazing resource for teachers in high school or middle school teaching about WWI. The diaries hold information about the daily lives of the soldiers in different units and divisions, and at different times during the war. They are not personal diaries although they do contain some personal information. Rather, these diaries contain information about decisions made in the unit and the activities that resulted from them. Students could use these diaries as a resource for a research paper and/or the teacher could even just use these as a way to learn more about what he/she will be teaching. This is an excellent primary source that students and teachers could utilize.
